With the entry of 3D printing the world of 3D CAD has now opened up to those that are not engineers or designers but want to create 3D parts. You don't want to end up with a toy, you need a substantial professional CAD system to create the next widget everyone may need.
Now most companies are small. The big boys, like Catia, Creo and NX are really only for huge companies that use PLM (Multiyear projects, many engineers working concurrently with thousands of parts and many outside suppliers). So you need a couple of seats? Towards $50,000! Maintenance, Support and if you don't hire it, the unthinkable Training costs!!!
