The Case for Inexpensive 3D CAD! You are paying way too much for 3D CAD and you know it! For the Individual The Engineering Professional Whether you are a budding or current engineer or designer ready to create the product of the century or a retired engineer or designer who just wants to keep their finger in the industry, this is the product for you. So you work for a large company that uses Catia, Creo or NX at $20,000.00 per seat. No way can you afford a seat of your own to start a design business and your company doesn't like you that much to give you a seat. To even think of justifying a purchase like that, you would have to have a huge contract. Okay, how about the mid range products?? Hmm, Solidworks $6,000.00, Inventor $5,000.00. Oh yes, I can hear it now. Honey, I want to start my own design business. Can we spend $6,000.00, is the answer laughter, "We need new carpeting", or "whatever". So how do you start a business doing professional side 3D CAD work for a company or designing your own products or inventions. We have the solution. The Inventor or Hobbyist With the entry of 3D printing the world of 3D CAD has now opened up to those that are not engineers or designers but want to create 3D parts. You don't want to end up with a toy, you need a substantial professional CAD system to create the next widget everyone may need. For the Company Design Houses Now most companies are small. The big boys, like Catia, Creo and NX are really only for huge companies that use PLM (Multiyear projects, many engineers working concurrently with thousands of parts and many outside suppliers). So you need a couple of seats? Towards $50,000! Maintenance, Support and if you don't hire it, the unthinkable Training costs!!! No Problem! A startup needs a staff of 5 engineers. Gulp. $30,000 for Solidworks, $25,000 for Inventor.. plus maintenance? A minimum of another $6,000.00. Yes, there are many users of these CAD packages, but at what price? Most 3D CAD systems are very similar. Most experienced users can be up to speed on a new system in a week or two. Suppliers So you have a couple of CAD/CAM packages. The initial cost were high now they want you to keep the maintenances up and you only use them to read the native files. The costs just aren't worth it. ACIS .sat, Parasolid .xmt, IGES, STEP or DXF/DWG Import Latest native files from: Catia 4/5/6, Creo (Pro/E), NX (UG)/Solid Edge, Solidworks and Inventor Import/Export both Catia 4 and 5 You can use ZW3D Lite as a translator and with the low upgrade cost of $250.00 you can keep current with all of the above programs and formats. This eliminates the need to pay the high maintenance costs or now having to "Rent" the software. Not only can you use ZW3D as a translator, with its robust direct editing functionality you can use it for modifying the imported parts, create drawings, generate .stl models for 3D printing, tool design and everything you are doing with your current 3D CAD system.
